Darrel Starkey-Gettings 2019 Rollercoaster

Share

We’ve been asking some of our members to look back over 2019 and we’ve had a great response with some great memories.

Every year is a mixture of good and bad, and member Darrel Starkey-Gettings of Taylor’s Hair Studio faced tough challenges which proved to have rewarding consequences as he outlines below. And he also looks forward to some of the exciting Good Salon Guide projects launching in 2020! It’s going to be a year to remember for us and our members! Over to Darrel…

Where do I start with 2019?

It's been a roller-coaster journey; one that has made me break down but allowed me to build back up again and become stronger.

Firstly, thank you to Good Salon Guide for the incredible post you put up for me when I messaged about my decision to give up on social media because of the negative impact it was having on me. The Good Salon Guide Team have all been amazing, messaging to support me when I needed a pick me up or just commenting on my posts with constant encouragement.

After my little break down, I have found the strength because of the support I’ve had to go out and smash the industry again. This year I was Runner-up in the Nations Favourite Hairdresser; took 2nd Place in the Denman Stage Star competition; achieved a finalist position in the NHF Britain’s Best competition; won a place on The Fellowship Project: Colour 2020 team, and won two local business awards for Best New Business and Green Business of the Year.

2020 is already looking to be an exciting year, and I will be entering even more competitions including the GSG Icon competition to win the salon photo shoot and again the Nations Favourite Hairdresser!

Thank you so much Good Salon Guide.
